THE STORY / IN POOJA’S WORDS
For all those who know me, I’m very big on tea and coffee. So it was a no brainer for me to choose coffee shops as a topic to do a series on. This particular painting shows a woman sitting in solitude. She’s reading and sipping on coffee while the rain is quietly falling outside. I’ve tried to show a warm cozy atmosphere contrasting with the cool weather outside.
Strangely whenever I’m looking at this painting, i am thinking that i should have made a man sitting opposite her. Because that’s how things are in my life. Karun is my constant companion in these escapades. We have had countless coffee dates where we have sat infront of each other, doing our own thing, speaking to each other only when required/ felt like. You see that’s what attracted me to Karun the most. It just felt so natural being with him. I never felt forced to have a conversation with him. I always WANTED to speak to him. I wanted run to him to tell him about my day and the slightest of inconvenience that happened to me and ruined it.
Before we got married, we used to sit in chaayos and have nice cups of tea. I have a photo of him that i took on my instax during those days. That photo is very precious to me now. I keep it in my wallet. It reminds me of the time when we both had just started to getting to know each other and the excitement we used to feel while meeting each other.
Now we are married. We still sit infront of each other. But now it’s on the dining table in the morning. The cups of coffee are made my me. They’re not the ones you get in cafés. The coffee is a bit flat, somehow I’m not able to get the froth to stay for more than 2 minutes. But Karun is happy. And so am i. A third person has joined us now. It’s our daughter. Sadly she has tried coffee and liked the taste of it.
The Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
