THE STORY / IN POOJA’S WORDS
When I quit my job last year, Karun and i decided to take a 10 day trip to the mountains. We picked Nalhota as our final destination. It is a place near Bir Billing. We were recommended a lovely place to stay called @dhauladharwoodhouse by our friend, @akul.chopra. We started our trip on my birthday and I still think about those 10 days. It was a clean break for me after a long time. No office phone calls, no deadlines, no pressure.I did yoga at extremely odd hours and temperatures there. I read very random things and played nonsense games with Arya. It was a pretty eventful trip also. We camped outdoors on a moonless night. It was pitch dark and the rain fell continuously. We had a two year old with us and what a sport she was. When rain falls on a tent, it sounds 10 times worse than it actually is. But Arya slept right through it. God bless her. We also went for a trek to a nearby place where we walked completely downhill and came across the place that i have just painted. We had Maggi there. Since this was a painting and I couldn’t have made myself in it ( would have reduced sales drastically), so the composition was changed to include three local women making something. What is this ‘something’? My classmates have made many guesses but it is open to interpretation. Whenever I look at this painting, i think about this trip. How free i was, so many possibilities lay ahead of me. I did not know at that point that i would eventually fall in love with art and would end up painting one of the sights from this very trip. While choosing a subject to paint , i think about many things and have many ideas. But what i paint with all my love and heart are the Himalayas, its people, culture and sights.
